Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how 85Blends handles information when you use the 85Blends app and website.
Last updated: October 2, 2026
Overview
85Blends is designed to help E85 and flex-fuel drivers calculate ethanol blends, find nearby E85 stations, manage vehicle profiles, track fill-ups, plan trips, and set reminders. 85Blends also offers an optional Pro subscription, community-submitted station, price, and ethanol-content information, and iCloud sync. We aim to collect only what is needed to operate the app, keep community data useful, and support your subscription.
Information you enter in the app
The app may allow you to enter information such as vehicle nicknames, vehicle details, tank size, target ethanol blend, odometer readings, fuel logs, fuel prices, station names, notes, and reminder details. This information is used to provide app features such as blend calculations, garage defaults, fill-up history, and service reminders.
Local storage and iCloud sync
85Blends is intended to keep your garage, fuel log, reminder, and calculator data under your control. App data may be stored locally on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, this data may also be stored and synced across your devices using Apple's CloudKit service, tied to your Apple ID and governed by your Apple account and iCloud settings. Cloud sync is available on both the Free and Pro versions of 85Blends — it is not a Pro-only feature. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.
Location information
85Blends uses location for two separate purposes:
- Nearby station search. When you use the Stations tab or search for nearby E85 stations, the app requests access to your location while you're using the app, and sends your current coordinates to the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC) station-locator service so it can return matching E85 stations for that request. NREL/AFDC's own API documentation does not specify to us how long it retains submitted location coordinates; for details on NREL's data handling, see NREL's own privacy and security notices at nrel.gov. You can disable location access at any time in iOS Settings; nearby-station and distance features may then be limited or unavailable.
- Automatic Pump Detection (optional). If you turn on Automatic Pump Detection, 85Blends can use background or "Always" location access to help recognize when you've arrived at a fuel station so it can prompt you to log a fill-up. This feature is off by default and entirely optional, and it requires you to separately grant background/"Always" location permission. You can turn Automatic Pump Detection off, or change location access back to "While Using the App" or "Never," at any time in iOS Settings.
Location data used for these features is processed to provide the feature you've requested and is not sold. Station coordinates shown on the map (for example, the address of a nearby E85 station) describe the station's location, not your personal location.
Community pricing, ethanol reports, and station information
85Blends lets users submit or update community station details, fuel price reports, and ethanol-content reports (collectively, "Community Data"). Depending on the type of report, we may store station details, the submitted price and/or ethanol percentage, fuel type where applicable, timestamp, optional notes, app version, and a persisted anonymous reporter/device identifier used to help prevent abuse and maintain the accuracy of community data. This identifier is generated on your device, is not your name, email address, or Apple ID, and is not used to advertise to you or to track you across other companies' apps or websites. Community-submitted information may be displayed to other users to help keep station, price, and ethanol-content information useful. Community submissions and related station data are stored using Supabase, our backend database provider, which processes this information on our behalf.
Diagnostics and technical information
The app or website may receive limited technical information needed to operate, troubleshoot, protect, or improve the service. This may include device or browser type, app version, crash or error information, and general usage events. We do not use this information to sell your personal data.
Website information
When you visit 85Blends.app, standard web hosting systems may process basic technical information such as IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps. This information is used for security, reliability, and site operation.
Third-party services
85Blends relies on third-party services to provide certain features, including Apple services (such as iCloud/CloudKit and the App Store), Supabase (community data backend), NREL's Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC) (E85 station location data), Google Mobile Ads and Google's User Messaging Platform (advertising and consent), RevenueCat (subscription management), map data providers, email support tools, and website hosting. These providers may process information as needed to provide their services, and your use of those features may also be subject to their own privacy policies.
Advertising and Google Mobile Ads
85Blends uses Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) to show ads in the app. Google and its advertising partners may collect and use information such as device and app identifiers, general technical information, and ad interaction data to serve and measure ads, as described in Google's own privacy policy. Where required — for example, for users in the EEA, UK, and similar regions — 85Blends uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to obtain and manage your consent choices for personalized advertising, and you can update those choices at any time from within the app's privacy settings.
85Blends does not sell your personal information. 85Blends does not request App Tracking Transparency permission and does not intentionally use IDFA for tracking, so the app does not show Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. Advertising partners' own data practices are described in their respective privacy policies and, where applicable, in the App Store's "App Privacy" details for 85Blends.
Subscriptions and RevenueCat
85Blends Pro is an auto-renewable subscription billed through your Apple ID / App Store account under Apple's own terms. 85Blends uses RevenueCat to help manage and validate subscription status across your devices. RevenueCat may process identifiers related to your purchase (such as an app-specific user ID and purchase/transaction information) to confirm your subscription and keep your Pro status in sync; it does not receive your name, email address, or payment details from Apple as part of this process. You can view, manage, cancel, or restore your subscription at any time from Settings on your iPhone.
Children's privacy
85Blends is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
Your choices
- You can edit or delete information you enter in the app where the app provides those controls.
- You can disable location permission, or turn off Automatic Pump Detection and background/"Always" location, in iOS Settings.
- You can manage iCloud sync behavior through your Apple account and device settings.
- You can manage ad personalization and privacy choices through Google's consent (UMP) prompt or your device's advertising settings.
- You can manage, cancel, or restore your 85Blends Pro subscription from Settings on your iPhone.
- You can contact us for privacy questions at support@85blends.app.
Data retention and deletion
Community price and ethanol-content reports, together with the persisted anonymous reporter/device identifier associated with them, are stored using Supabase and are kept for as long as they remain useful to the Community Data features — for example, until a report is superseded by newer information for that station, the underlying station record is corrected or removed, or you ask us to delete it. We do not currently apply a fixed automatic deletion schedule to this data. You can email support@85blends.app to request deletion or correction of a community report, station entry, or other information associated with your device, and we will take reasonable steps to respond.
Turning off Automatic Pump Detection immediately stops the app's use of background/"Always" location for that feature going forward. Where Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent prompt applies to your region, you can revisit your ad-privacy choices from within the app at any time.
Data security
We use reasonable measures designed to protect information associated with the app and website. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the app or website after changes means you accept the updated policy.
